On March 13, 2024, the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced that after inspecting 883 companies, 21 companies were found to have violated the Animal Product Hygiene Management Law, and requested the local government to take administrative penalties.
The main violations are: failure to obtain business facility change permits (4 companies) failure to undergo physical examinations (4 companies) violation of self inspection regulations (4 companies) violation of operator compliance (4 companies) failure to complete hygiene training (2 companies). The local government plans to recheck whether the above-mentioned violators have improved within 6 months after the administrative penalty.
In addition, a total of 932 products produced by the inspection company and processed meat products distributed in South Korea were collected and tested for pathogenic bacteria. So far, 892 products that have been inspected are all qualified, and measures will be taken for 40 products under inspection based on the inspection results. After inspecting 63 products labeled with nutritional content lists, such as ham and sausages, it was found that the actual fat content of two products was higher than the indicated value. The company is planned to be fined. After the implementation of this regulation, imported products will be strictly inspected in accordance with relevant inspection and quarantine procedures and policies. Therefore, to avoid export discovery, relevant companies are required to strictly follow the laws and regulations of the importing country for production, processing, packaging, and distribution, and to strictly confirm samples with the importer according to local requirements. Production will be strictly carried out according to the confirmed samples to avoid the risk of goods being returned
