Vietnamese Customs Strengthen Anti Smuggling Work for Imported Animal and Aquatic Products

On February 21, 2024, the General Administration of Customs of Vietnam announced the strengthening of anti smuggling measures for imported animal and aquatic products. The main content is:
(1) Control epidemics, develop sustainable animal husbandry, and ensure food supply; The key is to prevent and strictly deal with the illegal smuggling and transportation of livestock (water buffalo, cattle, pigs, etc.), poultry (chickens, ducks, etc.), lobster farming, and fish farming to Vietnam;
(2) Establish special cases to combat illegal cross-border trade and transportation targets, and conduct formal inspections on the sources, archives, quarantine documents, and origin of smuggled animal products, aquatic products, etc;
(3) Strengthen the inspection, monitoring, and strict control of imported animals and their products, as well as aquatic products, at enterprise ports and warehouses. Any imported goods that do not meet the import conditions or are illegally imported must be re exported, confiscated, or destroyed. At the same time, organizations and individuals who engage in illegal activities must be dealt with seriously in accordance with the law.
