South Korea has issued a draft amendment to the Implementation Order of the Special Law on Import Food Safety Management, proposing to increase the penalty amount for non compliant sales of imported food

On March 26th, the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued Announcement No. 2024-147, proposing to amend the Implementation of the Special Law on Import Food Safety Management

The main content of "Ling" is as follows:

1. Increase the penalty amount for not selling imported food in accordance with regulations from the equivalent value of the product to twice the product price.

2. To efficiently carry out import customs declaration work, establish an automated import food comprehensive information system to handle import customs declaration, and entrust the operation of the system to South Korea

Specialized agencies carry out automated system verification.

After the implementation of this regulation, imported products will be strictly inspected in accordance with relevant inspection and quarantine procedures and policies. Therefore, in order to avoid export discoveries, relevant enterprises are required to strictly follow the laws and regulations of the importing country for production, processing, packaging, and distribution. Samples will be confirmed with importers in strict accordance with local requirements, and production will be carried out strictly according to the confirmed samples to avoid the risk of goods being returned
