On March 4, 2023, the Australian Biosafety Import Conditions (BICON) website released import requirements for collagen and casings for human consumption, which will be implemented from the date of release.Specific requirements are as follows: (1) A valid import license issued by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is required before importing goods into Australian territory; (2) Collagen must meet the following import conditions: The following must be presented on a health certificate : If the collagen is derived from terrestrial animal hides or skins, a statement that the collagen is derived from animal skins/hide, a statement that the collagen has been commercially prepared; (3) Each shipment must be packed in clean new packaging and must be packaged before arriving in Australian territory Must be free of live insects, seeds, soil, mud, clay, animal material (such as feces), plant material (such as straw, branches, leaves, roots, bark) and other debris; (4) The following documentation must be provided with each shipment : Identifies the consignment (if not personal), such as entry number; identifies all goods imported as part of this consignment, such as invoice or waybill or importer's manifest; describes the goods imported.
