Australia revised the import conditions and requirements for pickled and canned fruits, vegetables, and algae products. On March 3, 2023, the Australian Biosafety Import Conditions (BICON) website released the import of pickled and canned fruits, vegetables, and algae products from Australia. Compared with the previous revision, the latest biosafety conditions and requirements include the use of sugar to cook fruits, vegetables, and algae products to make jam or jelly.The latest import conditions and requirements mainly include: (1) There is no need to apply for an import license from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.(2) Pickled fruits, vegetables, and algae products must use eight pickling methods including salt, sugar, vinegar, wine pickling, steaming, or storage.(3) Canned fruits, vegetables, and algae products must achieve commercial sterility and comply with five commercial sterile packaging types and packaging requirements, including iron cans, glass bottles, and sterilization bags.(4) Documents such as manufacturer's statement, invoice, bill of lading, product composition and processing details, product labels, etc. that prove that the goods meet the above processing requirements must be attached.(5) Specifies the return, destruction and other treatment measures to be taken for goods that do not meet the requirements.The above import conditions and requirements will officially come into effect on March 3, 2023.
